Best Spring Break / Meivakantie Destinations

The options are endless when choosing the best Spring Break / Meivakantie destination! Here are some of our favorites:

Best Spring Break / Meivakantie destinations in Europe/Africa:

  1. Croatia - Typically warm and sunny this time of year. The Adriatic might be a little cold, but you will enjoy laying in the sun and swimming in pools. It is a great time to visit cities like Dubrovnik before high season hits and cruise ship passengers crowd the city.

  2. Greece - Sunny with perhaps some wind - you’ll be able to enjoy a more authentic side of the country and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking (which might not be as enjoyable in summer). Again, you will enjoy visiting without the crowds that cruise ships bring in high season.

  3. Spain - Spring is really the perfect time to visit Spain. If you are visiting the southern region - Andalucia - you might be able to enjoy local festivals (ferias) or Semana Santa (Holy Week). These are both really unique experiences! You may enjoy combining beaches with historical towns (such as Granada or Sevilla) and the very colorful town of Cordoba.

  4. Italy - Italy is popular year round but spring is a bit cheaper and without as many crowds. We love all things Italy - this would be a great time to check out the cities, as well as Southern regions like Sicily and Puglia.

  5. Portugal - Portugal’s climate varies from the North to South. If you are looking for beach weather, you may be interested in the Algarve. If you are looking for moderate weather - Lisbon and nearby Cascais and Sintra would be awesome options. For something a bit cooler - head to Porto for where you can enjoy some amazing wines and river views.

  6. Netherlands - Tulip Season! This is a very popular time to visit the Netherlands and for a good reason. Seeing the tulips in bloom should be on everyone’s bucket list. The best time to visit would be mid-April. It is unlikely to see tulips in March or May. King’s Day is on April 27 and the whole country participates in celebrations.

  7. Switzerland - For sunshine check out Geneva/Montreux area or Lugano near Italy. For cities - look into Zurich, Lucerne or Bern. Some ski resorts might still have snow (Zermatt typically has snow year round). Not all hiking trails will be open, as it depends on the weather.

  8. France - Spring in Paris is so lovely - imagine sitting on terraces with fresh croissants and coffees, then wandering small streets to cute shops and ending with a picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower.  You may also enjoy visiting smaller towns or wine regions in Spring to see flowers blooming or new growth on the vines.

  9. Morocco - If you are looking for warmth and pool time, this would be a great option. There are many gorgeous properties around the country with fabulous pools (and some with kids clubs!) You could combine relaxation time with adventures (medinas, beach, desert, mountains, etc!)
