Italy with Babies, Toddlers and Kids
It can be tricky to pick destinations when traveling with littles. We have experience traveling throughout Italy with babies, toddlers and kids. We would love to help you plan your dream trip in Italy with your family!
Check out some of our favorite destinations:
Rome - This is one of our favorite cities in Europe. It is historic, full of amazing food, and also a bit hectic. It is a great destination for those who don’t mind walking (sometimes over cobblestones) or being around crowds. Plus - littles love gelato! Beware in summer, it can be quite hot so book a hotel with a pool.
Tuscany - SO beautiful and relaxing! When visiting Tuscany, we highly recommend renting a car. There are several beautiful hotels throughout the region. You can also find agriturismos - farm type stays - which can also be very family friendly. Look into family cooking classes or farm visits.
Cinque Terre - This is a great summer destination if you enjoy being in the water. Monterosso al Mare is our recommendation for the most family friendly of the villages. But you can easily travel between villages by trains or boats.
Lago Maggiore - A more family friendly version of Lake Como. You can find family friendly hotels and playgrounds in Stresa and Baveno. Plus plenty of dining options.
Sorrento/Amalfi Coast - When visiting this region with kids, we recommend staying in Sorrento. It is a cute, yet walkable city without the steps you might find on the Amalfi Coast side of the peninsula. You should take a day trip to Positano for a little beach time and perhaps an amazing meal or cooking class at La Tagliata.
Venice - Surprisingly - one of our favorite cities in Italy! You can take a stroller - if you have a few hands to help carry it over the bridge. It is a car free city, so no worries about traffic. There are plenty of calm squares where kids can play while parents relax.
Pisa - Worth stopping it for a meal and visit to the leaning tower. Kids aren’t allowed on the grass, which makes it a little tricky for littles who like to run. But you can capture a cute photo. Be aware - it is a bit of a hike from the train station so you may want to account for extra time or bring a stroller.
Florence - Florence is a beautiful city - especially at sunset. We don’t recommend visiting in the summer as it can be very hot without a lot of shade, playgrounds or pools. Instead look into spring or fall.
Naples - Naples is known for its chaos but the food is delicious! Perhaps spend an evening here while visiting Sorrento and Pompeii area. You can also get lunch at a winery below Mt. Vesuvius - pasta for the kids and a wine tasting for the parents.
We can’t wait to keep exploring more of Italy!
