10 days in Italy
There are so many amazing destination in Italy - it can be tricky to determine which locations to include in your itinerary. We have noticed that many our clients like to spend 10 days in Italy and like to see as much as possible. It is easy to travel between cities by high speed train. We can also coordinate private drivers and rental cars if you would like to get out of the cities. Some of our clients choose to fly in and out of the same city, while others prefer to start and end at different airports.
The first thing to consider when planning your itinerary is the month you will be visiting. Each season offers something different. In Summer - you can visit sunny beaches and enjoy gelato - just be prepared for crowds. In Fall - it is harvest season and Tuscany is beautiful. In Winter - you can opt for a ski vacation or spend time in less crowded cities. In Spring - almost anything is possible!
For a first trip - we recommend you spend 10 days in Italy with an itinerary similar to this:
Day 1 - Land and travel to location #1 (can be a city, town, or hotel/resort)
Day 2 - location #1
Day 3 - location #1 (an extra day here to recover from jet lag)
Day 4 - location #2
Day 5 - location #2
Day 6 - location #3
Day 7 - location #3
Day 8 - location #4 (city that you will be departing from)
Day 9 - location #4 (have a great dinner and spend the evening relaxing/packing)
Day 10 - Depart
For a return trip we still recommend at least 10 days in Italy! We advise visiting a new region and perhaps re-visiting an area that you loved!
Some of our favorite destinations include:
Rome - Beautiful and historic sites. Delicious, classic Roman food (carbonara or amatriciana - yum!). This is a city you could wander around for days.
Tuscany - One of our favorite destinations. We highly recommend renting a car. You can visit several gorgeous wineries, farms, and hilltop villages.
Amalfi Coast/Sorrento/Naples - Truly gorgeous and unique. Spend time relaxing at hotel pools with views. Then take excursions around the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Sorrento. You can also do a day trip to Pompeii or a winery under Mt. Vesuvius.
Venice/Prosecco Region - Venice is truly special. It is fun to just meander around the small streets, stopping for bites and drinks. From Venice, you can easily do a day trip to the green Prosecco hills to taste fresh wine!
Cinque Terre - It is famous for a reason! You can hike or spend time relaxing along the coast. Truly photogenic!
Lago Maggiore / Northern Lakes - Mountainous yet sunny and somewhat tropical. Enjoy walking along the promenades, boat cruises around the lakes and dinners al fresco.
Florence - The perfect destination for art lovers or anyone who wants a walkable city. The sunsets in Florence are some of the best in the world!
